What is Clozure, exactly?
Clozure is a secure platform and concierge service for organizing everything your family will need when you're gone,your wishes, your documents, your accounts, and your messages to the people you love. We're not a law firm or a funeral home. Think of us as your advocate and your entrée to both: we help you make decisions, store them safely, and connect you to vetted professionals when you need them.
What makes Clozure different from a lawyer or a funeral home?
A lawyer drafts your will. A funeral home handles a service. Neither one organizes the hundred practical and personal things in between, where your documents live, who to notify, what your passwords are, what you'd want said. That's the gap Clozure fills. And when you do need legal or funeral help, we point you to trusted partners rather than leaving you to find them alone in a crisis.
Do you sell funeral packages or prepaid plans?
No. Clozure does not sell funeral services, caskets, cremations, or prepaid funeral trusts. When you want to arrange or pre-fund those things, we refer you to vetted funeral and cremation partners who do, so you get honest options instead of a high-pressure sales floor. Your Clozure plan captures your wishes; our partners fulfill the ones that require a provider.
Isn't death a little uncomfortable to talk about?
It can be. That's exactly why we built Clozure. The discomfort doesn't disappear when you avoid it, it just gets handed to the people you love at the worst possible moment, when they're grieving and trying to guess what you would have wanted. When someone has just died
Someone I love just passed. What do I do in the next 48 hours?
First, breathe...you don't have to figure this out alone. In the first day or two, a few things generally need to happen: obtaining a legal pronouncement of death, arranging transport of the body, securing the home and any dependents or pets, and beginning to notify close family. Bigger decisions, burial vs. cremation, the service, the obituary, can usually wait a few days. If your loved one had a Clozure plan, their wishes and key documents are already waiting for you, and our care team will walk you through each step. Can I use Clozure for someone who has already passed?
Yes. Many people start Clozure after a loss, to organize details, documents, and memorial planning in one place instead of across a dozen drawers and inboxes. We guide you step by step, and our care team can help you triage what's urgent versus what can wait.
What can Clozure's care team actually help with when the time comes?
Your family contacts our care team, who guide them through the immediate steps, help them locate the documents and wishes you've already stored, and connect them to the right funeral, legal, or administrative partners. We can't remove the grief, but we can remove the guesswork.
Planning your wishes
What exactly can I plan and store in Clozure?
Almost everything that matters. You can record your preferences and store the details for:
- Burial or cremation
- Type of service (religious, celebration of life, private, or none)
- Location—cemetery, memorial park, or another venue
- Details like music, readings, flowers, or photos
- A good-bye video or written messages to loved ones
- Who to notify, and how
- A charity you'd want mourners to support in your memory
- What happens to your digital accounts and online presence
- Where your important documents, policies, and passwords live
...and more. The point is that everything reflects your values, in your words, so no one has to guess.
Will my family still have choices when the time comes?
Only if you want them to. A plan sets the foundation and removes the biggest, most stressful decisions and unknowns. Within that, your family can still personalize the details and add the touches that feel right to them, without carrying the weight of the big questions alone.
Isn't this something I can just leave for my family to decide later?
You could, but that often means confusion, disagreement, and stress at an already painful time. Families struggle to agree on what you "would have wanted," and decisions made under pressure tend to be rushed and expensive. A little clarity now spares them a lot of anguish later.
What if I move or change my mind?
Your plan is meant to change with your life. You can update your wishes, documents, and contacts anytime, in minutes, and we'll remind you to review periodically so nothing quietly goes out of date. If you've arranged services through one of our referral partners, those arrangements are governed by that provider's terms, which are typically flexible and transferable if you relocate, ask us and we'll help you understand your options.
Cost and money
Is a Clozure Membership paid for life?
Yes, when you purchase a membership: Clozure Free; Clozure Complete; or Platinum you pay once forever. No subscriptions, but the benefit of knowing all of your information and desires are safe with a single payment.
What does a funeral or cremation typically cost?
It varies by location, by burial vs. cremation, and by the type of service. As a general benchmark in the U.S., funerals commonly run about $7,000–$12,000 and cremations about $3,000–$7,000. Clozure itself doesn't charge these costs, our referral partners do, but planning ahead helps you set a realistic budget and avoid rushed, overpriced decisions later. If I pre-fund a funeral through a Clozure partner, is my money safe?
When you pre-fund services, that money is handled by the funeral or insurance provider you choose, not by Clozure, and reputable providers are required to protect pre-need funds in a trust or insurance product until services are needed. Because those arrangements are between you and the provider, we'll help you find reputable providers, ask the right questions and understand exactly how your funds are protected before you commit.
Security and privacy
How does Clozure protect my data?
Your privacy and security are our top priority. Clozure is built on enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit and at rest, secure authentication, and strict access controls across every device. Your documents and directives are accessible only to the verified Contacts you designate. We partner with Dentity for decentralized identity verification to help prevent impersonation, and our AI features never train on your personal information. Your legacy stays in trusted hands, yours, and the people you choose.
Is my data secure even if something happens to Clozure?
Yes, Clozure has partnered with our data storage partners (Google Firebase) and Iron Mountain Corporation to make sure that all of your information not only remain safe but accessible in the event that Clozure can no longer service your account.
The Clozure Card™
What's a Clozure Card™?
The Clozure Card™ is sleek and durable .08mm anodized aluminum, laser-engraved in the USA by the same artisan manufacturer behind the Grammy Awards. It carries clear medical-alert iconography and a unique QR code that links to your Clozure profile. If something happens to you, a family member, good samaritan, or first responder can scan it to alert the Clozure concierge team, who , after verification, can access the emergency information you've chosen to share. Medical wishes, religious customs, organ-donation preferences, and to trigger the notifications you've set up in advance.
What if my card is lost or stolen?
Deactivate it instantly from within the app and the QR code stops working immediately. Additional and replacement cards are available for purchase, and replacements are free for Paid Members.
How long does the card take to arrive?
Clozure Card™ orders are fulfilled in approximately 10 business days.
